About

Alex Makeev is a musician based in the San Francisco Peninsula who offers a blend of traditional jazz standards and contemporary jazz compositions, diverse originals, and his own twists on pop, rock, and indie tunes - some more recognizable, and some less widespread. In 2024 he won the 47th Annual Downbeat Student Arrangements category with his arrangement of Wayne Shorter's "Infant Eyes." In 2022, Alex Makeev qualified for the Jazz at the Ballroom (JATB) scholarship for high school instrumentalists in the Bay Area. In 2021, he was featured in a local newspaper. The article can be found here. Alex has extensive performing experience, both in groups and solo piano. This includes Max's in Burlingame with Michael Bee's combo, Old Skool Cafe solo piano and with The Fearless Five, San Carlos Farmers' Markets and various local community events/festivals with the Scots Tape Jazz Combo - which he founded and led, Art Bias Open Houses solo piano, and more. He has also performed at more private events, such as an art lecture exploring the improvisational techniques of Kandinsky, and senior homes in both San Francisco and Belmont.Â
